March madness ... and I don't mean basketball

We've been really busy. Mom had knee replacement surgery on March 14. It's not easy to have major surgery when you're 86. She was released from the hospital on March 17, and went directly to in-patient rehab at Troy Care and Rehabilitation. The therapists there do physical and occupational rehab every day. We had a discharge meeting today with a therapist, social worker, and RN. They agree she can come home tomorrow, though the therapist would like her to stay till Friday. We'll see that she has at-home therapy and outpatient therapy. I think she'll do better at home, because I see some "nursing home brain" symptoms (can't remember what day it is, etc.). Bob and I think her normal routine, plus additional physical therapy, will be better in the long run. And, my brother is arriving tomorrow night. He can work with her at home as well.

Now, about our "spring." What spring, you say? We had another 5 or so inches of snow last night. What's up with that? Everyone is eager for spring to really arrive.

Bob dressed as Steve Jobs (and he's using an iPhone 4S to boot).

We were at Tractor Supply and saw baby ducks ...

and baby chicks. Too cute.

Isn't this pathetic? These are my daffodils, complete with icicles in the background.
And one last word - and this is about basketball. Kansas beat my Tarheels, so I'm sulking. :)

I'm dreaming of a white St. Patrick's Day ....

Well, actually I'm hoping St. Patrick's Day will not be like today. We got about 6.5" of snow overnight. It was typical late-winter snow - heavy and hard to shovel. Our neighbor kindly lent us his snow blower, which we used to clear the driveway. But, of course, we had to have some fun, too. Here are some sledding pictures. Bob didn't want to get wet and cold, so he took the pictures.

No points for form.

Cal Poly folks: note I'm wearing Cal Poly socks.

The speed, the daring.

The goldfinches are really beginning to get yellow - males don't bother with all the color when it's not breeding season.

Fresno girl makes good

We saw Audra McDonald in concert at the Schuster Center in Dayton on March 1st. She's originally from Fresno. All my Cal Poly friends know her mom, Anna McDonald, worked at Cal Poly. During the concert ... a great show ... we weren't allowed to take pictures. So, I "borrowed" a publicity shot from the Dayton Daily News to post a picture of Audra. The rest are from my iPod, taken before the show started.
A great voice and pretty to boot.

Schuster Center architecture.

Bob before the show.

Isn't that a great ceiling?

Here we are in our seats.

This has nothing to do with Schuster Center. We attended a divisional championship girls basketball game on March 2nd (Miami East won!). This is basketball's version of a Zamboni. Gotta keep that floor clean.
